The Abbey Theatre

The Abbey Theatre has worked closely with the students of Marino College since 2016 providing them with the opportunity to connect with their national theatre, introducing students to live theatre and bringing characters from classical plays to life.

The Abbey Theatre have also led a number of initiatives including the rewriting of Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' for the modern audience, a live performance in front of a small audience in the Peacock Theater by the students and the writing and performance of their own short drama.

Through our work with the Abbey Theatre students continue to enhance their research and writing skills and develop their presentation skills. Students also begin to appreciate and enjoy drama performed in their national theatre.

Drama is also part of the Junior Cert Cycle short courses. A short course is designed for approximately 100 hours of student engagement over 2 or 3 years. The drama short course has provided students with the opportunities to connect with their communities through our work with the Abbey Theatre and to consolidate and strengthen aspects of students' learning.

Drama is for students who are interested in learning about the  theatre and performance in theory and practice. This course will develop the students' knowledge of theatre and performance enhancing their research and writing skills, developing their presentation, teamwork and performance skills through a fun and creative classroom environment.

The commitment of the Abbey Theatre to our school and students has allowed us to explore the world of theatre in a fuller, exciting and enjoyable way.
