Student council
At Marino College we place a huge importance on the student voice and we want our students to feel seen, heard, and respected in their school. For this to be the case, a school must dedicate time and resources to developing their student council. We are very proud to have an active, engaged, and enthusiastic student council.
Each academic year, every student has the opportunity to nominate themselves to represent their class group, and the students cast their democractic vote. The council comprises a class rep and deputy rep from each group. The council aims to meet every 3 or so weeks to discuss any issues, initiatives, events etc that they may want to organise. Every school policy that is being amended or updated has to pass through the student council. Students on the student council create and sign a constitution at the begining of the year - promising to promote school events, represent their class and model positive behaviours in school.
In the 2022/23 school year our student council created several lunchtime clubs for the school, received training from the ISSU, organised stand up awareness week, reviewed policies, created and facilitated an anti-bullying workshop, surveyed the students about their views on the uniform, created a well being campaign and collected opinions on potential designs for a new school hoodie.
