Life Long Learning for our Transition Year

The TY class were fortunate enough to receive a wonderful presentation from Saint Joseph’s in Shankill which is a home for people with dementia. Our students learned that St. Joseph’s is a Butterfly Home for its sixty residents. This means it is a home from home. Inside is designed to look like a house rather than a hospital.  Nurses do not wear a uniform, there is no nurses station, the place is full of colour and laughter. Our students not only gained insight into dementia, but also an understanding of how to communicate with people living with dementia. Valuable life learning again for our TYs!
